HCM is a common health issue for many cat breeds, including Sphynx. Our bloodlines have been scanned for HCM (Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), a genetically inherited, usually fatal heart affliction. All our parent cats come from bloodlines with at least to clear HCM scans before they are allowed to breed. We have spent years expanding our bloodlines to minimize HCM in our cats and their future offspring.
We work hard to make sure that you get a kitten that is pleasing to the eye, but more importantly, has personality traits that fit your lifestyle. We created early stage bonding practices, so your kitten will associate your scent with love, comfort, protection and home.
These cats attract people because of their unique look. But it’s the sweet, compassionate, brilliant, affectionate personalities that win people over. They are like dogs in cats clothing. They love to be with their humans and play fetch and hide-n-go-seek. Cats with hair are just cats. Sphynx are truly family.
Suggestions When Looking to Adopt
Regardless of whom you adopt from, if you can, visit the home where they live. Do not adopt from breeders that cage their animals, or if they can’t produce the parents of the kitten you’re looking at. Request references, and call them. If the breeder has numerous kittens available of differing ages, it’s most likely a kitten mill that does not screen the parents for genetic diseases such as HCM. We hear from people whom have adopted more "economical" kittens, and are now stuck with ill or dying kittens, and the stories are horrific. Not only financially devastating, but also emotionally tragic. Financial losses hurt, but heartbreak doesn't ever go away. Testing bloodlines for HCM is very expensive and those expenses are reflected in the cost of our kittens. When you adopt from us, you've got written warranties and guarantees that go beyond the financial investment, and respect the emotional one.
We hear about scams every single day. Do not be rushed to submit a deposit, and only do so if there are buyer protections, such as PayPal and Venmo. Never send wires, postal money orders, or gift cards. If they only deal in cash or money orders, there is no buyer protection. Steer clear of those people as they probably have bad intentions. If the deal seems to good to be true, it is.
Adopting a new family member is an emotional experience, and every new parent wants a happy, healthy, well adjusted kitty that will be with them for many years to come. We want that for you too, as you deserve nothing less.
Side note: Unfortunately the cat fancy can be nasty and judgmental. There are many good, quality breeders that I've associated with. I have also found that some breeders feel the need to badmouth others directly in attempts to make their own cats look better, or to sway a decision of a new buyer. We allow the cats and references speak for themselves and treat our clients like we treat our cats, as family.
We offer a one-year warranty against deadly inherited diseases. We will include this information with specific details in our written contract for your records.
